Need to surrender a horse? We’re here for the horse, not to judge you.

A calm first step
If a horse needs help, reaching out early gives JDFHR the best chance to discuss safe, practical options.
If your horse needs help, contact us. Our priority is getting the horse somewhere safe, not judging how the situation happened. Circumstances change, and people sometimes find themselves unable to provide the care a horse needs. Asking for help is better than waiting until the situation becomes worse.
We’re interested in helping the horse, not interrogating you.
JDFHR’s no-judgment, no-questions-asked philosophy applies to the circumstances that led you to ask for help. We do still need basic information to help the horse safely and decide whether an intake is possible.
Intake is case by case. It depends on available space, the horse’s needs, safety, and our current resources. If we have the room and resources to safely take the horse, we will consider the intake. Unfortunately, we cannot accept every horse.
Start by contacting JDFHR
If a horse may need rescue assistance or you are considering surrender, contact JDFHR before transporting the horse. An inquiry does not guarantee intake, but early contact gives us the best chance to discuss safe options.
- Where the horse is located
- Whether you own the horse or have authority to surrender it
- Approximate age, sex, and current condition
- Known medical needs, feeding needs, or medication
- Behavior or safety concerns
- Whether transportation is available or needed
- Clear recent photos or video, if safely available
These details help us evaluate safety and care needs. They are not an investigation of the person asking for help.
